They do have an annoying issue in them that every now and then they seem to get stuck firing at maximum range. They murder everything M6 and below that comes within range. I think you're probably talking about Reunion, but let me answer anyways (from Terran Conflict.)ġ) There are Flak batteries, and they rock.

Freelancer felt more personal and interesting.ġ) no flak batteries BSG style, 2) no dedicated CIWS (anti-missile/Fighter), 3) no long range missiles /nukes, and my most serious nagging bit, 4) no location based damage on enemy ships and no 5) good boarding/cloaking tech (first person boarding would be so kickass.) The X games are much more open-ended and let you do more epic things, but I don't really care about creating a trading empire or a huge fleet of ships. Personally, I prefer Freelancer to any of the X games. Also, I'm pretty sure you could choose from more than three ships, as this FAQ will attest to. I had no problem with the mouse and keyboard controls and the combat was entertaining, if not deep. Discovering the secret alien sectors and getting the alien weapons was also really cool. Flying through nebulas to find bases hidden in asteroids was awesome. I loved the art style of the game, as well as the uniqueness of each sector and planet hub. The only bad thing I remember was the incredibly stilted NPC conversations. I enjoyed Freelancer and I don't really remember any of those flaws. Although X now incorporated it too, because apparently people like it.

This got worse and worse as you levelled up, until eventually you'd just run into 8 ultra-elite pirate ships that still couldn't kill you, but took 9999999999999999999999999999 shots to destroy. Pirate encounters every three fucking seconds. Oh, you're level 19? Your enemies are level 20. Oh, you're level 9? Then your enemies are level 10.

Oblivion/Dawn of War 2 style enemy levelling. A total of three ships to own, only one of which was worth a shit.
